Woodnote — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 August 2026

Woodnote is made by Engineering Overtones LLC ("we," "us"). This policy explains exactly what data the Woodnote app handles. The short version: Woodnote is anonymous by design — there are no accounts, and we collect nothing about you unless you choose to share a song.

The short version

What we collect, and only when you Share

Everything you create — your recordings, songs, and edits — is stored only on your device. We receive data only when you deliberately tap Share to create a share link. At that point, and only then, the following is uploaded to our servers so the link works:

We do not collect: your name (unless you type one as the artist), email, phone number, contacts, location, files outside the app, or any device or advertising identifier.

Generating accompaniment

When Woodnote generates instrument parts for your song, the app sends our server symbolic musical information only — note names, chords, key, tempo, and arrangement choices. Your audio never leaves your device for this. These requests are processed to compute a result and then discarded — we do not store them, and our servers do not log the contents of your song.

How shared data is used, and who can see it

Shared data is used solely to make your share link work. Anyone you send a share link to can open it to listen to the song, see its title and artist (if you set one), and — for a collaboration link — make their own copy to keep editing. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for their own purposes.

We use infrastructure providers (Cloudflare and Railway) to host and serve this data on our behalf. They process it only to provide that hosting.

How long we keep it, and how to delete it

Note: if you edit and re-save a song after sharing it, the app starts treating the edited version as unlinked from the earlier share; that earlier shared copy then simply expires on its own within 30 days.

Your rights

Wherever you live — including the EU and UK (GDPR) and California (CCPA/CPRA) — you can ask what data of yours we hold and request that we delete it: email [email protected]. Because Woodnote has no accounts and only holds data from songs you chose to share (which auto-delete within 30 days), there is usually little or nothing to act on. We do not sell your data.

Security

All data sent between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).

Children

Woodnote is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change what data the app handles (for example, if we add crash reporting or analytics in a future version), we will update this page and its "last updated" date before that version ships.
